The log of HMS Condor giving an account of that ship's action in the bombardment of Alexandria. During the battle, Lord Charles Beresford, the Condor's commanding officer, noticed that the Egyptian gunners in Fort Marabout at the western end of the Bay of Alexandria were preparing to fire on a number of Royal Navy ships that were in range. Beresford used his ship as a decoy - thereby sparing the other Royal Navy ships from bombardment - and was able to sail his ship so close to the fort that its guns could not be properly trained on him.
