- There is no charge for private or not-for-profit professional research and access. Commercial users licensing footage for use in TV programmes and video productions are charged for research in some circumstances. Appointments are essential: the NRFTA is not able to accept visitors 'off the street' because conservation and copyright clearance work on film and video materials is often necessary and needs to be completed in advance of any research visit. Viewing copies on DVD can sometimes be sold to researchers but in many cases the permission of the copyright owner is needed to do this, which the purchaser must obtain first.
