Approved archives
To make The National Archives' Standard for Record Repositories a working and vital document, we inspect repositories against it. If a repository meets the requirements in the Standard in all essential respects it is awarded The National Archives approval.
Those record-holding institutions which do not meet the Standard in certain respects may still be appointed as a Place of Deposit for Public Records by agreement between the Lord Chancellor and the relevant authority.
