Legal issues
The National Archives has information on copyright and the use of archived material. For further information, read Tim Padfield's definitive guide to Copyright for Archivists and Record Managers.
Selection policy
Researchers using modern and contemporary sources may find our operational selection policies useful. These are based on our acquisition and disposition strategy, and set out the criteria by which records are selected for permanent preservation by different government departments. We welcome input from academics into the formulation of these policies. We also have an appraisal policy, which defines the methods used to determine which government records are worthy of permanent preservation.
Cataloguing and digitisation projects
Cataloguing projects are undertaken by the Cataloguing Board. Details of current digitisation projects can be found on DocumentsOnline.
