Records collection policy
This policy is an update of our previous Acquisition and Disposition Strategy. It sets out which records we will and will not collect from public records bodies, when we will collect them and where they will be held.
As well as providing high-level guidance for public records bodies preparing to transfer records to The National Archives, this policy enables members of the public, including those who use our archives for historical, academic or personal research, to find out what types of records we will collect.
Please also see our responses to feedback on our draft policy below.

Equality and diversity
The National Archives is committed to providing a working environment and culture which values and recognises difference, and to pro-actively tackling barriers to discrimination.
Our Equality and Diversity Policy below is intended to help us to put this commitment into practice.
We also have an overarching Equality and Diversity Strategy: our single equality scheme 2010-2012 and action plan which aims to ensure that equality is reflected in all of our organisation's policies, practices and strategic planning. A review is currently was carried out in April 2012 identifying new initiatives for 2012-2014.
