Until 1654, the courts are headed 'St. Johns' or 'St.... Johns in Midhurst', but when the records resume views of frankpledge held on 12 Oct. 1694 and 20 Oct. 1696 are headed 'Manor of St. John' whilst the... next, held on 14 Oct. 1698, is headed 'Liberty of St. John'.
