Hugh R Leach, OBE, has been a member member of the RSAA since 1962, and twice served on its Council. Most of his thirty-six years' service as a soldier and diplomat were spent between the Nile and the Euphrates. Leach was recipient, in 1998, of the RSAA Lawrence of Arabia Memorial Medal. He is the principal author of the RSAA centenary history: Leach with Farrington, Strolling About on the Roof of the World (2003).
