Administrative / biographical background:

Robert Deiville granted to Stephen (I) de Segrave the service of William de Wasteneis, for the land which William held of Robert, and the advowson. [BL Harl. MS 4748, f. 17.] A rent of 7s. was granted by Stephen to Leicester Abbey in exchange for lands in Seagrave, and it is not mentioned elsewhere in the medieval portion of the muniments but, according to Smyth, Henry Lord Berkeley (d. 1613) sold lands in Burrough-on-the-Hill (Ardeburrowe), South Croxton and Kirby Bellars with the manor of Great Dalby in 1586-7, so the rent may have passed as a member of Great Dalby, to which Kirby Bellars was adjacent. [Smyth, ii. 359; BL Harl. MS 4748, f. 17]
