Administrative / biographical background:

Heydon was held at his death in 1321 by Nicholas Segrave, who had acquired both moieties from the coheirs of Peter Picot (d. 1313). One coheir was Isabel Touke, to whom Nicholas owed £10 in Aug. 1315, and in Aug. 1319 he had a licence to acquire a messuage and 2 carucates of land from Simon de Seneville, the other coheir. [Morant, Essex, ii. 601; CPR 1313-17, 391.] On the death of Nicholas's daughter and heir Maud without issue in 1335 her lands reverted to her cousin John Lord Segrave. Heydon was included in the grant of Dec. 1343 (there said to be in Cambs.) [Heydon was transferred from Essex to Cambs. in 1895.] but does not occur in John's inquisition post mortem (which includes returns from Essex and Cambs.) or later.
