Administrative / biographical background:

The firm is one of the oldest established insurance brokers in the West Riding. Its origin can be traced back to 1865 when Henry Beaumont, a cloth finisher from Elland, was appointed Elland agent for the Liverpool and London Globe Insurance Company. As business developed, he became a full-time broker and offices were established in Coronation St, Elland in 1900-1901. In 1911, Harper Garside joined the firm as a clerk and after Henry Beaumont's death he carried on the firm changing its name to Harper Garside in 1921. He died in 1937, 4 partners carrying on the firm. In 1986, the firm was purchased by Bush Hodgson and Co Ltd
