The Horbury Industrial Co-operative Society was an early co-operative venture, formed around 1865/6. The Society prospered and came to dominate the commercial life of Horbury for many years, until recent changes in the pattern of retailing ended its viability as an independent unit in 1979, when it was amalgamated into the West Yorkshire Co-operative Society, with headquarters in Bradford. |
