The business was started about 1869 by Jonathan Davy who had previously worked as a moulder at Newton Chambers in Chapeltown, and was known as J. Davy & Co. After Jonathan Davy's death in 1889 the business was carried on by his three sons, Edmund, Fred and Jonathan, and his son-in-law, Joseph Sheldon. In 1908 it became a limited company under the name of J. Davy & Co., (Elsecar) Ltd. Subsequently it always remained a family business until it was wound up in 1980 |
