"
Date: 1885-1983
Arrangement:

The original firm would have assembled the Ordnance Survey maps in this collection of maps on the scale of 25 inches to 1 mile and used some specifically for the business of its clients.

Some of the maps are identified as relating to named clients, some have been annotated for identifiable purposes and the purpose of some other maps can be readily inferred by reference to the deposited records in J Dawson and Sons. These maps form the first Series. There are a number of conjoined maps with annotations and whose purpose is not known. These form the second series. The third series contains plans not annotated and the section also includes plans with slight annotation whose purpose cannot be identified.

There are 466 maps on the 1/2500 scale catalogued in section 3 and they date between 1885 and 1938. By county there are: Derbyshire 1, Durham 1, Kent 1, Lincolnshire 82, Leicestershire 1, Norfolk 8, Nottinghamshire 36, East Riding of Yorkshire 16, North Riding of Yorkshire 27, and the West Riding of Yorkshire 293.

The fourth Series lists the small number of modern Ordnance Survey maps also deposited.
