An archive of letters and papers and newspaper cuttings relating to the first successful expedition to climb Mount Aconcagua in South America, the highest peak in the Western Hemisphere. Writtten by Stuart Vines the first englishman to reach the top. The expedition was led by Edward Fitzgerald with the Swiss guide Mattias Zurbriggen. Related material includes the telegram sent to the Royal Geographical Society reporting on the successful ascent of the summit "Immense Success" and press cuttings and other related documents. These documents are the property of the Alpine Club Library.
