Series Title: Mount Everest Correpondence regarding the possibility of mounting an expedition after the war. Eric Shipton had offered himself as leader should such an expedition be contemplated, and permission obtained for it to take place. Due to an unfortunate misunderstanding, this was leaked to the Press as an expedition in the pipeline. The Indian Government had not given permission for such an expedition, and the Alpine Club found itself doing some damage limitation. At this time the Honorary Secretary, Bryan Donkin was abroad, and Dr Charles Warren was acting (reluctantly) as acting Hon. Sec. The file includes an interesting letter from T.S. Blakeney, stationed at the time in India, who had read the reports of the supposed expedition in the local press, and wrote to the RGS and AC offering himself as a member of the party.
