Series Title: Original Letters 47 letters from James Forbes to Alfred Gautier. There are no letters from Gautier to Forbes. Some of this correspondence deals with the dispute that Forbes had with M. Desor and Professor Guyot of Neufchatel regarding his glacier theories. Both men appear to have claimed that they had the theories first. The first letters in the volume (pp.3-5 and pp.6-7) are printed copies of letters written in response to the claims of both men, which Forbes intended for wider circulation. Subject: Glaciers |
