Series Title: Original Fuhrerbucher Official Fuhrer-Buch issued to Pollinger by the Valais Canton, July 1896. Includes photograph of Pollinger pasted inside book. The book contains entries made by climbers with whom Pollinger climbed as guide, but the first eight sides are taken up by an overview and precis of Pollinger's career before he received the official book, compiled in part from an earlier ordinary notebook, and partly from the personal knowledge of the writer, A.F. de Fonblanque (AC). Although most entries relate to climbing in the Alps, Pollinger also climbed in Canada with Edward Whymper, 1902, and the Andes with the Meyerdorffs, 1903. A set of miniature photographic prints with the volume reproduce this introduction, and the last page of the volume that has been written on. A case with the volume contains a complete set of photographic prints of the written pages of the volume, made by Emil Gos of Lausanne. Dates: July 1896 - July 1939. Places: Andes Subject: Guides |
