Administrative / biographical background:

Major General Parham (1896-1974) was born and brought up at Norrington in Alvediston. A distinguished soldier with a career spanning both world wars, he served in the Royal Artillery and was an innovator in the field of air observation for gunnery. He was a keen amateur pilot, and wrote books on aircraft, the theory of flight and memoirs of flying. Parham was an artist of considerable skill, and recorded some of his experiences during battle, as well as scenes of Britain and elsewhere.
