Description:

Mortgage by Thomas Clopton of Clopton, esq., to Edward Nash of London, draper, for £200, of a meadow in the manor of Bridgtowne in the tenure of Alice Bellamy, widow, and John Bellamy, her son, to be voided on the payment of £200 on the 1st March ensuing 'in the nowe dwellinge howse of Thomas Nashe esquier called the newe place... in Stratford upon Avon.'

 

With counterpart, not executed, bearing as an endorsement: 'a mortgage to old Mr. Nash not sealed.'

 

Note: a small brass coin about ½ inch diameter found imbedded in face of seal - the upper side showed a rose in centre and the underside a crown.
