Clopton Charters ER 3/388 26 September 1702
Assignment by Sir John Clopton of Clopton, Knt., and Hugh Clopton, his second son, in consideration of a marriage between the said Hugh and Elizabeth daughter of Thomas Millward of Curdworth, esq., (the said Thomas and Elizabeth being parties) to Richard Dighton of Clifford Chambers, co. Glouc., esq., and Carew Guidett of Lincoln's Inn, co. Midd., esq., of two leases to the said Sir John Clopton, the one from Charles [Sackville] Earl of Dorset, of a piece of ground, 114 x 42 ft., in the Guild Pitts in Stratford-upon-Avon or Old Stratford for 150 years at a yearly rent of 2s 6d, dated 20 May 1679, the other from the Mayor and Corporation of Stratford of a piece of arable meadow in the liberties of Old Stratford for 51 years at a yearly rent of 20 shillings and two capons, dated 13 June 1692; such assignment to be to the use of the said Sir John Clopton for life, then to Hugh Clopton for life, then to Elizabeth Millward his wife for life and then to the heirs of their bodies, and in default as the survivor of the said Sir John, Hugh and Elizabeth shall appoint.
