Will. of Johnothan Nicholls, tinman. He bequeaths £40 to niece, Elizabeth Mayo, to be delivered into the hands of her lady in trust for her as she may have occasion; and £100 to the trustees of the Blue Coat School for the use of the girls there taught. The residue is to be equally divided among testator's brothers and sisters and their children, share and share alike. Executors, testator's brothers, John Nicholls and Hearsay Simpson. There is little to be noted in these deeds. Over-Suckmore (DR429/293) was subject to the commoners' lammas grazing rights after hay-harvest. Sir Joh. Dugdale's name (DR429/296) recalls that of his father, Sir William, of famous memory, who, according to one authority, has a house in Cross Cheaping. An interesting account of an encroachment is given in No. DR429/298. John Currin, tailor, had built his house with the second storey projecting, and supported by pilasters, which stood on Church land. The feoffees reserved the land between the pilasters, and forced Currin to take out a lease and pay 2s. 6d. a year.
