Physical description: 2 SUB-FONDS
Custodial history:

When the Rev Joseph Stevenson visited Coughton on behalf of the Historical Manuscripts Commission in 1872 he described the outside of an 'interesting-looking coffer' that could not be opened. The coffer later yielded its secrets, and was found to contain part of the medieval muniments of the Throckmorton family, including one deed from the 12th century, about 40 from the 13th, about 90 from the 14th and 50 from the 15th, the latest item being dated 1701. The deeds were calendared by Isaac Jeayes of the British Museum in 1893, and the following year he tackled a larger group of related deeds and documents from the muniment room at Coughton Court. Of a total of 1,138 items in this larger group, about 690 date from before 1500, 500 from before 1400 and 50 from before 1300. His calendar, in one manuscript copy only begins with the 1894 work and treats the contents of the coffer as an appendix
