Administrative / biographical background: |
Lt-Col Nicholas Austhwaite Stanley bought Dalegarth in 1947; it had been sold by his uncle, Edward Stanley (1859-1894) to Lord Muncaster in 1888. Ponsonby Hall had also been a residence of the family; Ponsonby Old Hall was built by John Stanley (c1662-1730). The Hall was sold by Lt-Col Nicholas Austhwaite Stanley in 1951 to the Home Office. |
