Administrative / biographical background:

This was originally intended as an isolation hospital and run under the auspices of Blaydon Urban District Council. In 1905 this function was taken over by the newly-formed Blaydon, Ryton and Whickham Joint Hospital Committee who extended the hospital adding new wards and an administration block.

 

The hospital is now closed.
