This organisation was established in January 1891 at a meeting of the Northumberland and Durham Brewers Association

 

Its aim was to protect and monitor the interests of the brewing industry. This local group had a salaried secretary initially, paid out of increased subscriptions to these previously paid to the national body.

 

This organisation came to have close links with the National Union of Licenced Vichiallers who came to elect the committee of the N.T.D.A. at their Annual General Meeting.

 

In 1924, the N.T.D.A. set up the Newcastle Womens League, the members of which organised find raising and social events. This continued until 1932.
