Administrative / biographical background:

Although the Sunday School dates from at least 1882, the chapel was not opened until October 1887, when it was known as Fulwell United Methodist Free Church, as part of Dock Street U.M.Circuit (MC.SU10). From 1934 it was in Sunderland North Circuit (MC.SU1). A new church was built at Dykelands Road and opened around 1964.
