These volumes contain minutes of Chapter meetings, including episcopal elections, administrative orders for the Cathedral and the Chapter estates, installation and admission of prebendaries, vicars choral, lay vicars and other officers, notes of leases granted (before register books were kept the whole lease was copied), confirmation of episcopal grants and other memoranda. The volumes were lettered on being rebound at the beginning of the 19th century, when the existence of what is here Cap/I/3/0 and Cap/I/3/1a was apparently unknown.

From 1879 they include references to the running of the Prebendal School, with particular detail during the Second World War.

From June 1944 the series continues as minute books rather than act books but the content is largely the same.
