Description:

Recites: 20 December 12[9 ?]2 evidence given before the Court of the Official of Chichester diocese on the tithes and other dues then payable, the vicarage then being vacant after the death of Master John. The abbot and convent of Grestain are patrons of the living.

 

The vicar is due

 

12th sheaf from the royal demesne on which two tithes are due.

 

6th sheaf from the royal demesne on which one tithe is due.

 

7th sheaf from the .... part of the fee of ..... Curpley.

 

Nothing from the fee of Racton except ..... from certain old established homages, every third sheaf.

 

3rd sheaf from ....... and Coleingham.

 

3rd sheaf from the land of Richard de la Hamme.

 

6th sheaf from la Hyde.

 

Nothing from the land of ...atescombe ....... save that from the hay of Brelis he receives the 3rd cartload, from the hay of Marsco the 6th load, from the fee of Hereward from the same acres a third part, from 2½ acres on which the messuage appropriated to the vicar is founded the prior has two parts of the [tithe ?].

 

The vicar of Willingdon is not receiving [15th/16th century] his tithes except by sequestration. The following are due to him: 9th sheaf from Marsh......, Willingdon.

 

12th sheaf from land of the hospital .... Buttinghulle.

 

Nothing from the land of the fee of Milhurst.

 

Nothing from land of the Priory of Michelham.

 

3rd sheaf from 12 acres only from the fee of Hereward.

 

Nothing from the land lately part of the Manor of Racton (in this land the rector of the chapel in the castle of Pevensey has the 11th sheaf, the vicar the 6th).

 

In one acre late of Sir John atte Combe, in all the land of the Queen in Hokynton, in a piece of land in Cytacr., in all the land .... at Langgesheg, and in one acre in Westfield of the land of William Morynge, and in land called R[a ?]tele. And in two hams of Symon Mersman and the land of Agnes Crofte. And in one acre of land of Richard Gaylo. And in Lytellho, Michell ho, in the east plain, in the land of John Jurdan, in the lands at Nenegore and in the middle of the land of Richard Bron at Ston. ho and from all the land at Cotestompe, the vicar gets nothing, except from 3½ acres called Cloebstonne, from which he gets the third sheaf.
