Description:

Bequeaths to the poor people of Horsham, who do not receive alms out of the public collection of the parish, £10; and £5 for bread to be given to poor people at his funeral; to his godsons, Henry Ellis, John Pilfold, Richard Curtis and John Spencer, £5 apiece; to sis. Elizabeth, w. of Philip Ansell, 20s. 0d. a year for life; to sister-in-law Mary Ellis, wid. of his bro. Henry Ellis, decd., £10; to John Stanford, Edward Stanford and William Stanford, children of Mary, 'now' w. of John Stanford of Warnham, butcher, £200 apiece at the age of 21, with interest at 5 per cent. until it becomes payable, and to said John Stanford the son, the further sum of £50 to be paid at the age of 21 (the legacy of any of these three children dying before it becomes payable to go equally to all the children of said Mary Stanford); to said Mary Stanford £100; to his bro.-in-law Philip Ansell 2s. 6d.; to Diana Ellis, dau. of said Henry Ellis, decd., £250; to John Ellis, s. of said Henry Ellis, decd., an annuity of £20 for life out of his (the testator's) messuages, barns, buildings, farms and lands in Nuthurst, in the tenure or occupation of the testator and Henry Tuesly

 

Devises to cousin Henry Ellis, eldest son of said Henry Ellis, decd., messuage, barns, buildings, farms and lands called Brookehouse and Brookehouse Lands in Shipley, until John Ellis, s. of his (the testator's) kinsman Henry Ellis, shall attain the age of 21, whereupon he (the testator) devises the property to him

 

Bequeaths to John Ellis, s. of his said kinsman Henry Ellis, one silver cup; to the two daus. of his said kinsman Henry Ellis £100 apiece at the age of 21; to said kinsman Henry Ellis, Mary, w. of John Stanford, and said Diana Ellis, all his household goods, to be equally divided between them

 

Devises to Samuel Hill, Mary Hill and Catherine Hill, children of Samuel Hill of Dorking (co. Surr.), glazier, messuage, garden and backside in the Bishopric in Horsham, in the several tenures or occupations of Thomas Taylor and John Miles; and to his kinsman Henry Ellis, s. of his late bro. Henry Ellis, decd., all his other messuages, farms and lands in Sussex or elsewhere (subject to the above annuity of £20, and all his other legacies)

 

Appoints said kinsman Henry Ellis as executor and residuary legatee

 

Witnesses (to the will) - John Linfeild, Thomas Parham, William Tasker

 

By the codicil, he bequeaths to Henry Ellis and Mary Ellis (s. and dau. of his said kinsman Henry Ellis) £100 apiece to be paid at the age of 21
