Under the terms of The Brighton Corporation Waterworks Act 1872 the Council acquired the Brighton, Hove and Preston (Constant Service) Waterworks Company which supplied the town's water. The waterworks was administered through the Committee whose minutes are listed and the records became the property of the Southern Water Authority when it was established in 1974
