Title: Hastings County Borough Council: Borough Engineers plans
Description:

Plans prepared by the Borough Engineer's Department as well as some deposited plans and plans prepared by contractors. Lists and indexes survive for the plans and these form the series DH/C/2. All the plans are numbered and are located by the Cupboard or Drawer number and plan number. It is necessary to check these indexes prior to ordering a plan. From about 1946, a new alphanumeric system was used for classifying plans and the negative plans and the drawings were split; these plans and indexes have been retained by Hastings Borough Council. The old numbering seems to have continued for certain sets of plans; and some plans included in the old sequence were given new numbers but continued to be held withjn the old sequence. These have all been transferred and are included in the indexes. Some of the plans, mainly those in the Upper Basement consist of several copies - a linen negative, the original drawing and sometimes the copy signed by the relevant Committee.

Date: [c1880-c1950]

Former reference in its original department: DH/C 3
Language: English
Custodial history:

Originally the plan series was held together. However it was split at some point and stored on two floors of the Borough Engineers offices at 38 Wellington Square. Although it is possible to reconstitute the archive by merging drawers back together, this has not yet been done as it would render the indexes (DH/C/2/2-5) unworkable. The plan series remains split into Upper and Lower Basement plans.
