Description:

By STEPHEN COUPER of Nenfeld, senr., to RICHARD COUPER, his son, of all his lands, tenements, &c. in Nenfeld, Asshebornham and Wartlyng

 

Upon condition that the said Richard should find for the said Stephen and Isabella his wife, in the capital messuage late belonging to the said Stephen, and not elsewhere, food and drink suitable to their estate and fire in the hall of the said messuage for them and their servant or maid servant (famule vel famule) with necessary and agreeable seats. They to have the use of the high chamber at the east end of the said messuage. The said Richard to provide for the washing, cleaning, drying and sweetening (?) of all clothes both linen and wool (tam lineos quam laneos) for their persons or beds; also food and drink for all men or women waiting upon them in sickness

 

If the said Stephen and Isabella should not be pleased to stay in the said messuage, the said Richard to pay them 8d. a week by way of entertainment (exhibitionis) and every 3rd week from Michaelmas to Ladyday a waggon load of good fuel, and every 4th week from Ladyday to Michaelmas. Seal
