Title: Henry Towner Collection
Description:

Introduction

The collections of Henry Towner and Charles Leeson Prince (listed as AMS5897) seem both to have been almost totally derived from the Medley archive at Buxted Place. What survives of that archive is listed as SAS PN and as many cross-references as possible have been included in this list. The documents in all three groups have a similar style of numerical and alphabetical endorsements and many have been inspected by William Burrell, who is known to have visited Buxted Place in the course of his studies (see SAS ME 22, Burrell to Charles Gilbert, 27 Jun 1794)

Some of the documents, although originally of Medley provenance, cannot be proved to have passed through the hands of either Towner or Prince and some of Prince's collection, particularly the deeds of Wovers in Hailsham seem to have no connection with the Medley estate

The references of documents listed by the Sussex Archaeological Society appear beneath each entry
