Description:

Recites history of drainage-scots in Guldeford Level including the mapping of the Level in 1690, a voluntary scot by some owners of outlands, orders concerning scotting of 1692, 1694, 1695 and 1715; agreement by the owners to pay equal scots and referral of the arrears to arbitration, 1718; permission to Sir Charles Farnaby to lay a gut into the common sewer, to be in force for a year, 1726; decree continuing the gut, ordering Farnaby to pay £20 arrears, maintain the sea-walls against his land and pay scots, 1727; breach of Farnaby's wall by the sea, threatening the Level, in Jan 1735; refusal of Farnaby to repair the breach or maintain his wall, insisting that it should be maintained by a common scot; that it would be cheaper to repair an old wall further from the sea, but Farnaby's land and other outlands would be shut off and left open to the sea; dispute between the expenditor and Farnaby's tenants concerning the stopping up of the gut
