Description:

Born, 1928. Commissioned into East Surreys, his father's old regiment, but served initially with the Royal West Kent Regiment. Returned to England prior to joining the 1st Battalion, East Surreys, and carried the Colours to Tripoli for the Battalion's 250th anniversary celebrations. Served with 1st Battalion, the Middlesex Regiment, in Korea. Served with 1st Battalion, the Queen's Royal Regiment (West Surrey), in Libya, the Suez Canal Zone and Brunswick, 1952-1956. Served as instructor in the Platoon Commanders Division of the School of Infantry, Warminster.

 

Returned to serve with 1st Battalion, East Surrey Regiment, c.1958, in Cyprus, Libya and the United Kingdom. Served with the All Arms Junior Leaders Regiment, then as training major with 3rd Battalion, Queen's Royal Surrey Regiment. Commanded 1st Battalion, Queen's Royal Surrey Regiment, 1966-1967. Awarded MBE for his action in Aden, 1967.

 

Commanded Intelligence Corps Depot, 1967-1969. Served three years on the staff in the Gulf. Appointed Instructor at the Intelligence Centre, and later commanded the Joint Interrogation Unit, 1973-1975. Served as Senior Military Intelligence Officer in Northern Ireland, 1975-1977, for which he was awarded an OBE. Served as Deputy Director of Intelligence Corps, 1977-1979. Served as Security Officer to Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe. Retired, 1983. Spent a further ten years in government service and was Secretary of his local Royal British Legion branch. Died, 1999.
