Title: JACKSON, MAJOR FREDERICK GEORGE (1860-1938)
Description:

Born in Alcester, 1860. Took part in expeditions to Australia, Greenland and Russia. Organised and led the Jackson-Harmsworth Expedition to Franz Josef Land, Norway, 1894-1897. Awarded Norwegian Order of Knighthood (First Class) for assisting two Norwegian explorers, Nansen and Johansen, in 1896. Commissioned into the 5th (Militia) Battalion of the Manchester Regiment, 1900, and served in South Africa. Transferred to the 4th (Special Reserve) Battalion, the East Surrey Regiment, 1905. Transferred to 1st Battalion, 1914. Posted abroad to command prisoner of war camps in Westphalia, Germany, c.1918. Retired, c.1919. Later took part in exploration in Africa. Died, 1938.
