Title: THE CLAYTON FAMILY OF MARDEN PARK, BLETCHINGLEY, GODSTONE AND TANDRIDGE: ADDITIONAL FAMILY AND ESTATE PAPERS RELATING TO SURREY, LONDON, KENT AND LINCOLNSHIRE
Description:

Deposited by Sir Peter McClintock Greenwell, Bt, of Butley Abbey Farm, Woodbridge, Suffolk, per the Marden Estate Office, Tillingdown Farm, Caterham, in July 1950 and September 1951.

The records relate chiefly to the title and management of Clayton estates in the manors of Walkhamstead (alias Godstone), Tandridge Court, Tandridge Priory, Willey and Bletchingley; and the parishes of Bletchingley, Burstow, Caterham, Chaldon, Chelsham, Crowhurst, Godstone, Horne, Merstham, Oxted, Tandridge, Warlingham, Worth in Sussex and Great Marlow, Bucks. Of particular interest is 'A Survey of the estates of Sir Kenrick Clayton, Bart, lying in the county of Surrey', surveyed by William Chapman in 1761 (K61/3/2).

The records also include court rolls, rentals and related records of the manors of Bursted in Oxted; Bletchingley and Garston (alias Gasson or Gaston) in Bletchingley; Walkhamstead (alias Lagham alias Godstone) and Flower in Godstone; Tandridge Court (alias Tandridge) and Tandridge Priory in Tandridge; and Willey in Chaldon, 1502-1925 (K61/1/- and K61/7/-).

Also deeds and particulars of properties to be let or sold by Sir Robert Clayton (1630-1707) and John Morris (c.1627-1682) throughout Surrey; and in Bromley, Kent, and Bardney and Bolingbroke, Lincs (K61/5/-)

Arrangement:

The papers listed in the first portion of the catalogue (K61/1/- to K61/6/-) were deposited in July 1950 and catalogued in 1959. The papers listed in the second portion (K61/7/- to K61/17/-) were deposited in September 1951 and catalogued in 1960.
