Title: Chetwynd of Brocton
Description:

At the time of listing the documents were found loose in a tin box, with the exception of two or three small archive bundles.

 

This collection consists almost entirely of deeds, and relates largely to the purchases made by the Chetwynds of Brocton in the Brocton area, between 1751 and 1810. In addition, a few deeds are concerned with property in Eccleshall. The collection contains also a number of vouchers etc. relating to drainage at Brocton, showing the cost of labour and materials in the first years of the 19th century.

Arrangement:

The title deeds form three groups:

 

1) Bundles relating to each property bought by the Chetwynds.

 

2) Two bundles which probably relate to properties bought by the same family, but certain evidence of this is lacking

 

3) Deeds relating to settlements, wills etc. of the Chetwynds.
