Administrative / biographical background: |
This Charity was established under the will of Mary Povey dated 7th July 1702. Under her will, Mary Povey left lands at Freehay, the rents for which were to be applied for a "poor clergyman" to read prayers twice weekly in Cheadle parish church. Although provision was made in the will for the Charity, it was not actually established until 1770. The Charity is still in existence but amended now so that prayers are read twice yearly. |
