Title: FROXFIELD AND HUNGERFORD plan
Description:

Plan endorsed 'Kennet and Avon Canal through Hopgrass and Northstanden', and apparently prepared circa 1790; watercolour on paper; 23½ in. x 90 in.; 26.6 in. to one mile.

Showing a stretch of the canal between Oakhill and the town of Hungerford and passing through the parishes of Froxfield and Hungerford (co. Wilts.).

The plan was prepared, probably, for Mrs Popham, whose name appears as occupier of the adjoining properties, at a date prior to the Kennet and Avon Canal Act, 1794, in order to show how the estate would be affected. The course of the canal shown on the plan varies from that which was eventually followed.
