Description:

Three bundles of deeds relating to estates of the Bigg family.

 

The first bundle of deeds, concerning the Bigg family, 1689-1792(17), contains: Conveyance by John Packer of Chilton Foliat, doctor in physic, his wife Jane, and Francis Carsewell of Bray (co.Berks.), D.D., to Lovelace Bigg of Maindowne (co. Southampton), gent., of a capital messuage and other properties in Chilton Foliat, 1689. Demise by Lovelace Bigg to Hatton Tash of Moulsey (co.Surrey), gent., of the said property, 1691. Settlement (reciting a settlement of 1684 on the marriage of Lovelace Bigg of Chilton Foliat, gent., and Dorothy Wither of Andwell, co.Southampton, spinster), upon Lovelace Bigg and his wife, of the Chilton Foliat properties in lieu of an inn called 'The George', a messuage called 'The Horne', and other small properties in Ware (co. Herts.), the estates concerned in the 1684 settlement; dated 1692. (Six documents).

 

Covenant to suffer, and an Exemplification of, a Recovery between Lovelace Bigg of Chilton Foliat, esq., with his second son, Henry Bigg, clerk, Fellow of Winchester College, and Thomas Bethell of London, gent., and others, touching the Chilton Foliat properties, 1722. (Three documents).

 

Settlement on the marriage of the Reverend Henry Bigg and Katherine, daughter of Martha Garnham (widow of Roger Garnham of Priors Court in Chievely, Berks., gent.) of Peasemore (co.Berks.), touching the Chilton Foliat properties, 1723. (Two documents).

 

Conveyances, etc., by Lovelace Bigg Wither (formerly Lovelace Bigg), son of the Reverend Walter Bigg of Worting (co.Southampton), deceased, to the Reverend John Craven of Sennington Park (co.Gloucs.), touching the Chilton Foliat properties, 1792. (Six documents).

 

The second bundle of deeds, concerning the Bigg family, 1696(1), 1749-85(20), contains:

 

Various deeds relating to minor properties in Chilton Foliat, 1696-1785, acquired by purchase or exchange by the family of Bigg, including Letters of Administration granted to Lovelace Bigg of the goods of his father, Walter Bigg, late Rector of Worting (co.Southampton), 1772, and a Conveyance to Lovelace Bigg of the 'Wheat Sheaf' inn, 1773.

 

The third bundle of deeds, concerning Lovelace Bigg Wither, 1766-90(8), contains:

 

Settlement on the marriage of Lovelace Bigg of Boswell Court (co.Midx.), esq., and Margaret, a daughter of Brydges Blackford, esq., of Osborae in the Isle of Wight, affecting the manor and farm of Lydham Week alias Lyddington Week [in Liddington] (co. Wilts.), messuages in Pangbourne (co.Berks.), including an inn called 'The George' and a tenement called The Cross Keys', and properties in Soley in Chilton Foliat (co. Wilts.), 1766.

 

Conveyances, etc., all dated 1790, concerning Lovelace Bigg Wither, the manor of Lydham Week etc., and the following estates in the county of Southampton; the manors of Worting alias Wortinge and Woodgaston alias Woodgarston; the advowson of Worting; various farms in Worting, Monk Sherborne, Bramley, Pamber, Basing, and Natery; the royalty and lordship of the hundred of Chutely; the courts leet and view of frankpledge of the manors of West Sherborne, Worting, Church Oakley, Malshanger Hall, Pamber, Inhurst, Ham, and Silchester; the manors in West Sherbourn alias Sherbourn Monachorum [West or Monk Sherborne], Saint Lawrence Wootton, Church Oakley, Pamber, Bramley, Basing, and Nately; the manor of Wymmering [Wymering], and lands in Wymering and Cosham [in Wymering], Southwick, and Widley. [Seven documents; all attested copies].
