Title: HOUNDSTREET ESTATE accounts and rentals
Description:

Yearly account books, inscribed 'Houndstreet Stated Account' or 'Houndstreet Rent Roll and Stated Account', and headed 'Edward Langford to...', 1813, and 'John Farmer to Edwd. Wm. Leybourne Popham, Esqr.', 1814-19; complete for the period 1813-19. Rentals are included separately in each volume.

 

Receipts. Quit rents, free shares in the Heighgrove Coal Company, timber sales, etc.

 

Disbursements. Rates and taxes, labour and service (carpentry, thatching, mowing, printing, etc.), purchase of various items (wheel-grease, coal, lead, paint, etc.), and incidental expenses.

 

The rentals give: (i) for 1813-15, half-yearly accounts, showing tenants, rents, and property tax allowed; and (ii) for 1816-19, in tabular form, names of tenants, yearly rent, arrears due from previous half-year, half-year's rent due, total due, amounts received and remaining, and property tax allowed; with the addition of a brief description of the properties, terms and dates of expiry of leases, in the period 1817-19, for which years the property tax column is omitted.

 

In 1816, a note that the total rent receipts and property tax have been carried forward to the general account is appended.
