Various loose deeds and cognate documents affecting parts of the Popham estates [as described in no. DD/PO/2]:

 

Mortgages and Assignments affecting Edward Popham of Littlecote, esq., and a mansion house and other properties in Ramsbury (co. Wilts.), 1743-59; (eleven documents). Lease for a year, 1747, and Mortgage, 1754, affecting Edward Popham, and the manors of Farmborough Grevill and Farmborough Rosewell, and Chelworth alias West Chelworth, and the rectory of Brislington alias Bussleton; (three documents). Mortgages affecting Edward Popham, and concerning the manor of Northstanden with Oakhill, 1760, and the mansion house in Ramsbury, and the manor of Northstanden, 1767; with an endorsement on the latter of a deed affecting Mrs Dorothy Popham and the manor of Farmborough, 1788; (two documents).

Exemplification of a Common Recovery, of Alexander Popham, esq., versus John Stokes, gent., (vouchee: Francis Popham, esq.), concerning the manor of 'Nylands alias Neylands with Badcombe', 1774. Conveyance, by Francis Popham of Houndstreet, esq. (eldest son, heir, and devisee in fee of Edward Popham of Littlecote, esq.), and his wife Dorothy (late Dorothy Wallis, widow), and a trustee, to Mary Hutton of Duke Street, Westminster (co.Midx.), spinster (reciting the settlement on the marriage of Francis and Dorothy, 1772, affecting the Popham estates in Berks., Somerset, and Wilts.), concerning the manor of Nyland with Badcombe, 1774. Assignment of the arrears of tithes of Badcombe, by Francis Popham to a trustee for Mary Hutton, 1774. (Four documents).

Mortgage by Dorothy Popham of Littlecote, widow, of the manors of Farmborough Grevill and Farmborough Rosewell, and Barrow Hill, 1788. Copy of the Will of Dorothy Popham of Littlecote, widow, 1797 ('proved at London' 1798), whereby she devises her estates in the counties of Lincoln, Leicester, and Middlesex, and in the city of London, to her sister Mary Hutton, and her estates in the counties of Somerset, Wilts., and Berks., to Francis Popham, then of Houndstreet, esq., charged with annuities and legacies to various people, and in default of heirs, in turn to various people including Lieutenant Colonel Edward William Leyborne (the nephew of her late husband). (Three documents).

 

Transfer of a mortgage on the estates of the late Edward Popham, affecting part of the estates in Berks., Somerset, and Wilts., 1805.

 

Attested copy of the Will of Mary Hutton of Duke Street, St. Margaret's, Westminster, spinster, dated 1809; whereby she devises the estates in Berks., Somerset, and Wilts., to Edward William Leyborne Popham of Littlecote, esq., and in default of male heirs, to Francis Popham of Bagborough, esq., and Alexander Popham, late one of the masters of the High Court of Chancery; and disposes similarly of her advowson of Hemyock (co.Devon), in trust to present James Sparrow of Bourton [Flax Bourton], clerk, at the next turn, and of her leasehold estate in Compton Dando and Froxfield. The estates at Nyland and Badcombe are charged with the payment of several annuities.

 

Assignment of mortgage terms to trustees for Edward William Leyborne Popham, affecting part of the Berks., Somerset, and Wilts, estates, 1809. Final Concord concerning estates in Farnborough and Ramsbury, 1810. (Five documents).

 

Release of an annuity charged under the Will of Francis Popham (1775) on estates [not described] in Berks., Somerset, and Wilts., by Mary Hutton to Edward William Leyborne Popham, 1813. Schedule of deeds and papers belonging to Mary Hutton 'formerly in the possession of the late Mr William Adams', giving the dates (1623-1814) and titles of documents relating to the Somerset estates; dated 1819.

 

Copy of the Will of Edward William Leyborne Popham of Littlecote, esq., General in H.M. Service, 1837, and Codicils, 1841-42 (proved P.C.C. 1843); whereby he devises his estates to his son Francis Leyborne Popham, and makes several bequests to his son Alexander, his daughter Isabella, and his friends and servants.

 

Declaration concerning the Popham estates, 1883, made by Thomas Isaac Pointing of Lion Lodge, Rowde near Devizes (co.Wilts.), land agent, who was steward of the Popham estates in Somerset between 1838 and 1880; giving schedules of the estates concerned.
