Documents relating to Popham charities in Chippenham (co.Wilts.):

 

Conveyance by various persons to eleven Feoffees (burgesses of Chippenham) of a messuage and lands in Foxham in Bremhill (co.Wilts.), on the payment of £160 by Sir Francis Popham of Hunstert [Hunstrete], knight, who is party to the deed, together with his son John Popham of Littlecote, esq., 1635. The property is to be held by the Feoffees in trust for the payment yearly of £6 from the annual rents to three poor freemen or burgesses of Chippenham, at the appointment of Sir Francis Popham and his heirs. The Feoffees are to dispose yearly of the remainder of the annual rents as they think fit.

 

Receipt for £142, the purchase money of a close near Chippenham, bought by Alexander Popham of Littlecote, esq., from Edward Wastfeild, merchant, of London, and bestowed to the use of the poor freemen and free burgesses of Chippenham, 1655.
