Title: | Papers of Thomas Cole of Bridgwater, Solicitor and other miscellaneous family papers |
Description: |
Solicitors records and family papers Introductory note This collection is mainly composed of the papers of Thomas Cole, a Bridgwater solicitor of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Many of the documents relate to Christ Church Chapel in Dampiet Street, Bridgwater, a non-conformist church of which Thomas Cole was a member and a trustee, and of these, a distinct element relates to a legal case fought over some property given to the trustees for the support of the Minister (see DD/OS 4 for a more detailed exposition). Other documents in the collection relate to various Bridgwater families and their property, in particular the families of Osler, Davies, Cole and Mills. There was a slight blood relationship between three of these as Thomas Cole's mother was a Miss Davies before her marriage and Thomas Osler married Mary Cole. The Mills family married into that of Phelps and the Rev. Thomas Spencer acted as executor for James Mills. |
