Title: MISCELLANEOUS SOMERSET DEEDS
Description:

Miscellaneous Somerset Deeds

The records here catalogued are only a small portion of the extensive archive material passed to the Somerset Record Office by Messrs. Farrer & Co. The two outstanding collections, the Gore Langton MSS. and the so-called Battersby MSS. relating to the Timberscombe area, have been separately catalogued as DD/GL and DD/FR respectively incorporating in that process as much as possible of the material deposited through the British Records Association. What remains distinct from those two archives is treated here.

Little need be said about the composition of this miscellaneous collection as the only true archive group is items 1-3 relating to the Sainsbury, Cannon and Langford families. The remaining items have been arranged as far as possible by alphabetical order of parish, but the involvement of Richard Brodrepp of Maperton in both items 10 and 24 will be noted. The correspondence book of 'Mr. Dennett' (item 8) gives an often amusing insight into the frustrations of an 18th century executorship.

Items 1-3 were originally held by Messrs. Walfords of 27, Bolton Street, London, W.1., a firm later taken over by Farrer & Co.
