Title: | KINGLAKE AND NEWMAN FAMILY PAPERS |
Description: |
This deposit is composed of deeds and papers of two families, Kinglake and Newman. The former held property in Taunton, Wilton and neighbouring parishes including the lordships of the manors of Taunton Deane, Taunton late priory and Fons George. They also owned Vivary Park prior to its sale to the Borough of Taunton in 1894. The latter's main estates, as represented in this collection, seem to have been at Rowley Regis, co. Stafford, with other property at Titford Bridge and Cakemoor in Halesowen, co. Worcester, in Wolverhampton and in co. Brecon. The property in Stafford was acquired by the marriage of William Abiah Newman with Elizabeth, dau. of John Beet, the previous owner. Their eldest son, William Alexander Newman was the incumbent of Hatch Beauchamp from 1869 until his death in 1885, and possessed property both in that parish and in the neighbouring one of Broadway. |
