Description:

A collection of title deeds and related papers, including correspondence and some plans. The collection relates mostly to the area around Hadnall in Shropshire, but also contains papers relating to Liverpool and London.

Arrangement:

The collection was mainly arranged according to the detailed schedule compiled at various dates between c 1920-1942 and the catalogue has been structured in the same order, using the same numbers from 1/1-163.

 

Some series are missing as documents were sent to various solicitors - they appear in the list marked 'all items removed - sent to solicitors'. Where possible, items later returned have been placed under their original series heading.

 

Series numbered 1/165-167 consist of papers not related to the schedule but part of the estate. Series number 164 was not used.

Administrative / biographical background:

The ancient Sansaw and Hardwicke estates in Shropshire were acquired in the mid to late nineteenth century by the Bibby family, wealthy Liverpool shipowners who started to accumulate property in the Hadnall area of Shropshire and around the docks in Liverpool.
