These minute books show that property was bought by the Asylum: Copthorne House, Oxen Hall and Fir Tree Cottage (small-holding) on the Copthorne Estate

 

They reflect the Great War, as the 1914-1921 Minute Book refers to: Leave to attendants belonging to Territorial Force, Attendants serving with Colours as Army Reservists, Application from married attendants for money allowance in lieu of rations, War Bonus, Fire and Aircraft Insurance, Military Service, Beds for wounded soldiers, and the water supply

 

They also reflect the relationship between Bicton Heath Asylum and other asylums in the country, for example Bicton Heath Asylum not only took patients from Montgomeryshire but also from:- Talgarth Asylum, Berkshire County Asylum, Denbigh Asylum, Cotford Asylum, Morpeth Asylum, Stafford Asylum, Essex Asylum, Middlesex County Asylum, Berry Wood Asylum, Abergavenny Asylum, Somerset and Bath Asylum, Rainhill Asylum, Prestwich Asylum, Macclesfield Asylum, Carmathern Asylum, Worcester Asylum, Hereford Asylum, Lancaster County Mental Hospital, Warwick Central Hospital, Ellesmere Institution, Stretton House, Caersws Workhouse, and Forden Workhouse

The 4th Medical Superintendent was Arthur Strange, M. D., Edin. from 1873-1901

 

The 5th Acting Medical Superintendent was Alan Rigden, L. R. C. P., Lond. from 1901-1902

 

The 6th Medical Superintendent was Daniel F. Rambaut. M. A., M. D. from 1902-1911

 

The 7th Medical Superintendent was W. Stanley Hughes, M. B., B. S. (Lond.), M. R. C. S., L. R. C. P. from 1912-1948

 

The 8th Medical Superintendent was Dr. Matthew James Brookes M.R. C. S. (Eng.) L. R C. P.
