Folders of correspondence largely containing letters written to John Evans, divided into author by surname. The correspondence is mostly from colleagues and acquaintances and is therefore largely professional. In the main, the letters relate to specific coins and antiquities, mainly British and Irish, and often include sketches of the objects. Many of the letters include references to the Ashmolean accession registers noting objects in Evans' collection that were acquired by the Museum. These references and other notes were added by E.T. Leeds, Keeper of the Ashmolean from 1928-1945. |
